Paddle Clutch

I am doing a sea kayaking trip in George Bay Ontario I needed to store my spare paddle (GL Kelleq) while out on trip. I purchased this product from Amazon. It arrived quickly and without any fuss. This morning on our local paddle, I installed it on my. P&H Cetus… and it worked like charm!

I currently use a deck pod II and so I was aware of the functional clips, but what really helped the product settle down and secure to the deck lines was the broad Velcro clasp (one on each side). The two sides are held together now by a physical clip versus a magnet as it’s about 1 foot from my compass…. This was a great improvement. Also, holders are open ended… allowing the paddle shafts to extend through the clutch… in my case, I didn’t want my paddles under the deck pod, so I’ll have more shaft going towards the bow. This GL design offers great flexibility.

When you’re out on trip for two weeks, other than your Kayak, a spare paddle is a comforting thing… this GL clutch is a great investment and I’m very happy with the purchase!

Lightweight and easy to install. I like the clip between the two paddle holders that allows you to access the forward hatch if needed.

I bought this paddle clutch on Amazon and it is exactly what I was after. I wanted something low profile that would keep my spare paddle secure and the ends up off the deck to prevent scratching. The velcro and deckhand fasteners make it very secure, I don't even remove it when transporting my boat. I like that it has a center buckle to I can get in my forward hatch, though I don't use that very often. Really what I like most is that they are so low profile and not nearly as cumbersome as some of the other paddle britches on the market.

It’s very nice but might not work well for everyone, you can’t move the deck hands away from the shaft holder part, to move the shaft holder part more inward away from the deck edge. If your deck lines are on the edge of your boat hull, then that’s where the shaft holders will be, and depending where you can place your paddle blades, your paddle shafts may stick out from the hull at an angle as your hull curves inward at the front of the boat. Your paddle blades need to be on the outside edge of your boat to avoid this. Also I think the magnetic buckle would be more glove friendly if it were a regular pack buckle. My North Water paddle Scabbards actually work better on the bow for me, thought don’t quite look as sleek. The paddle clutch works fine on my stern.
