Inuit Ingenuity & Modern Technology

Greenland style paddle blades make contact with the water covering roughly the same surface area as Euro-blades, but the even distribution results in a smoother stroke and more control in the water. The narrow blade also creates less resistance in the air, allowing paddlers to explore further with less physical strain.

Pick The Right Size

Size is power. The longer the paddle is, the more power it produces. The shorter the paddle is, the less power it produces. The best of both words, the Regular Size 220 will give you enough power, while relaxing enough for your long journeys.

Nearly 10 years old

My paddle will be 10 years old next May, it was a 70th birthday present, It is a wonderful paddle and it has stood the test of time. Someone once told me that you couldn’t brace with a Greenland paddle, I proved them wrong..I use it all the time and I hope it lasts the rest of my paddling days. Mine dates from the days of custom colours and is a bright lime green!

Akiak 230 wonder paddle

I was a Werner Kalliste Touring paddle man all the way until I watched Dancing With The Sea and decided to give the Greenland paddle a shot.
This paddle allows me to go further with not only less effort but it’s like a complete reduction of fatigue. I thought before using, it was a gimmick. Well I’m 62 and it’s no Gimmick. It’s a Wonder Paddle A marvelously wonderful tool !!!!

Akiak 220 and 210

I became interested in the Greenland style paddle for back and shoulder relief for long paddles. My wife and I have been kayaking for about 20 years now. She also loved the idea of a less strenuos paddling experience so we started researching. I visited and called many large shops from the Bay Area to Bellingham without finding these style paddles for sale or demo. I was conflicted about buying them before trying them but the endless glowing reviews of the style and this brand got me convinced. Better to bite the bullet and learn the paddle than to possibly give up on the type after an inconclusive demo. My options seemed to be cheap poorly shaped CF paddles with questionable durability, to hand made to order wood, to the Gearlab range. I decided to get these Akiak paddles for my wife and I and the shopping experience was great. One week from order to delivery here in the west coast of the USA, exemplary communication from Gearlab and DHL delivery services, and the paddles (both blue) are beautiful. They appear well made and exude quality. I just feel like they are worth every penny. The Greenland paddle experience is described as very tactile and these feel so good in hand that I can easily see that. We got the spare tips and screw and a white wax for decreasing any possible play in the joint.
